Our Story

Jen, Founder of Jenstar Movement Studio

Hi! It’s Jen here to share a bit about my story and how we got to Jenstar Movement Studio as it is today….

If you've ever found yourself standing at the edge of a new chapter, wondering what's next, then we already have something in common.

Long before I was teaching yoga, leading retreats, or owning a movement studio, I was a dancer. I earned a Bachelor's Degree in Dance and spent much of my twenties performing professionally in Las Vegas. Dancing wasn't just something I did—it was who I was. It shaped my identity, my friendships, my goals, and the way I viewed myself.

"Then I made the difficult decision to walk away."

When the Dream Changes

Leaving professional dance was one of the hardest decisions I've ever made.

For years, I had worked toward a dream that many people spend a lifetime chasing. Yet deep down, I knew it was time for something different. The problem was... I had no idea what that something was.

When so much of your identity is wrapped up in one thing, letting go can feel like losing a piece of yourself.

Looking back, I realize I wasn't just leaving dance. I was graduating from one version of myself and learning how to become another.

Finding Yoga

During that transition, I found yoga.

Yoga didn't swoop in and magically fix my life. What it did was give me space to listen, space to heal, and space to love myself instead of constantly trying to "fix" myself or become better for the dance industry.

For the first time in years, I wasn't focused on performing, producing, or proving myself. I was simply paying attention to the quiet voice inside and allowing it to guide me.

What began as a physical practice slowly became a way of navigating life. Yoga taught me how to love and accept myself. It helped me move through grief, focus on what I could control, and loosen my grip on all the little things that used to consume so much of my energy.

Building Jenstar

As I continued teaching and studying yoga, a vision began to form. I wanted to create a place where adults could try something new without feeling intimidated. A place where movement could be joyful, challenging, healing, empowering—or all four on the same day.

A place where beginners felt welcome.
A place where people could reconnect with themselves.
A place where movement wasn't about perfection, but possibility.

So in 2014, Jenstar Movement Studio was born. What began as a small dream has grown into a community of people showing up for themselves and one another through a variety of boutique group fitness and self-care classes.

More Than a Workout

Most people don't walk through our doors searching for a life lesson.

They're looking for a yoga class. A workout. A way to reduce stress. Maybe they're returning to fitness after years away, or navigating a major life change. Maybe they simply need an hour that's just for them.

But movement has a funny way of teaching us things we weren't expecting to learn...

Over the years, I've had the privilege of witnessing so many special moments: people discovering confidence they didn't know they had, friendships forming, and students moving through grief, career changes, health challenges, motherhood, retirement, and countless other life transitions.

I've watched people transform—not just physically, but mentally and emotionally too.

Somewhere along the way, I realized we weren't just teaching yoga, barre, strength, and dance classes.

We created a place where people feel seen, supported, and comfortable enough to dig a little deeper and figure some things out for themselves.

"As a studio owner, that's what I'm most proud of—not the classes, the schedule, or even the studio itself. It's the ripple effect. Watching people reconnect with themselves and witnessing those little breakthroughs that change how they move through the world. They carry that energy into their families, friendships, workplaces, and communities."

They show up brighter… and that is where the real magic is!
